The Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is one of the most beautiful and exciting trek in Nepal. If you do not have a real long vacation and yet desperately want to explore the beautiful Nepal with natural beauties, mountains and culture, then Ghorepani Poonhill trek is something you must try.

The moderate level trek in the Annapurna range offers the trekkers with the panoramic views of the mountains that includes Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Tukche peak (6920 m), Nilgiri (6940 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), Annapurna (8091 m), Hiunchuli (6441 m), Machhapuchhare (6997 m) and the Lamjung Himal and Manaslu.

The trail will take you through the beautiful Rhododendron forest decorated with different colored flowers. The icy waterfalls add further beauty to the whole trek.Trekkers will walk through the terraced sloped and the paddy fields with an absolute experience of the unique culture of the area. The Gurung and Magars largely inhabit the place and thus trekkers can observe the lifestyle and culture of the Magar and Gurung.

Thus the trek is a remarkable trekking destination with a whole package of the landscape, mountains and the local cultural experience.

Day 1 – Arrive Kathmandu
Hidden You will be met at the airport and be taken to the hotel. You may relax or explore until the group meets at dinner.

 

Day 2Tour around Kathmandu

After breakfast, you venture out for the full day sightseeing (6-7 hours) in a fascinating medieval city, its streets, bazaars, temples, shrines and Buddhist stupas are crowded with peoples of every creed, color and race. Rickshaws, taxis and hooting motorists add to the din and create that special atmosphere that Kathmandu is so famous for. You visit the Swayambhunath Temple (also known as the Monkey Temple) and the Durbar Square in the heart of the city. This is where the Kumari is. Many of Kathmandu’s most historic and important temples are located here. Next you will drive to Patan, once a beautiful city in its own right which rivaled Kathmandu in terms of the splendor of its temples and squares. You cross a bridge over the Bagmati River that links Kathmandu with the city of Patan, its neighbor to the south. Patan has more excellent architecture and has long been a centre of Newari craftsmanship. There will also be time to purchase any last minute supplies for the mountains.

Day 3 Kathmandu to Pokhara, takes a flight (25 min) or drive (6-7 hours)
After breakfast, we will drive you to the airport for a flight to Pokhara. The 15 minutes flight will offer you with the glorious Manaslu, Annapurna and Langtang mountains. Also, you can choose to drive to reach Pokhara through roadways. Tourist buses are available via Prithvi Highway and will take around 6-7 hours drive. After you reach Pokhara, you will be transferred to a hotel. You can relax and enjoy your spare time around the Lake side. Try boating in the Phewa Lake, which is one of the most famous places in Pokhara.

Day 4 Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Ghandruk (1940 m)

After our breakfast, we will start our journey towards Nayapul. We will reach Nayapul in only about one and half hours by a car or a taxi. Nayapul is where the real trek begins. Climbing the first staircase and then walking across the river, following the stone paved trail, you will reach the Birethanti town (1000 m). Walking further the steps, we will reach Ghandruk in 5 to 6 hours. Ghandruk is a beautiful Gurung village with the Gurung culture welcoming the tourists. Trekkers will enjoy the scenic beauty of the Gurung settlement, views of the Annapurna South and Fishtail and experiencing the local culture.

Day 5 – Trek to Tadapani (2540 m)
After a visit to the Gurung monastery and the museum in Ghandruk, we will start our trek late today. The trail today will make you pass by the Rhododendron Jungle. After passing through the forest, we will reach a place named ‘Bhaisi Kharka’. This might probably be the place for lunch. Continuing after Bhaisi Kharka, trekkers will again walk into the deep jungle for about 1:30 hours.  Walking further comes the Tadapani. Tadapani means ‘far water’ and is located on the ride of the hill. Tadapani is famous for the sunrise and sunset views of the Machhapuchhare.

Day 6 – Trek to Ghorepani (2775 m)

Starting our walk from Tadapani after breakfast, we will first climb down the gorge for 30 minutes. Now, a climb of about an hour will lead us to Banthati. We continue to follow the gorge until we reach Deurali. After lunch in Deurali, we will first go for a short climb and then descend inside the beautiful oak and rhododendron forest until we reach Ghorepani.

Day 7 – Ghorepani to Poonhill (3210 m) and trek further to Tikhedhunga (2540 m)
The Poonhill is one of the best Himalayan viewpoints in Nepal. Trekkers usually make an early morning tour to the Poonhill for the view of the sunrise over the Himalayas. Trekkers will be amazed to view the panoramic views of the mountains like Dhaulagiri I (8167 m), Tukuche (6920 m), Annapurna South, Annapurna I (8091 m), Hiunchuli (6441 m) Gangapurna (7454 m), Lamjung Himal (6986 m) and Machhapuchhare (6997 m). The yellow rays of the rising sun when strike the snow capped mountain peaks, there is not a better place to get lost into the nature.

After viewing the beautiful sunrise view from Poonhill, we will proceed towards Nagyathati. Continuing with the trail, trekkers will reach Ulleri. About one and half hour of steep descend from Ulleri will take the trekkers to Tikhedhunga on the bank of the Bhurungdi Khola.

Day 8 – Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara
After the breakfast, we will continue to trek to Nayapul. We will pass through Hile, Sudame, Ramghari, and Birethati and then finally to the Nayapul. It will take around 3 to 4 hours to reach Nayapul. From Nayapul, we will catch a private vehicle to reach Pokhara. Upon reaching Pokhara you will be transferred to a hotel.

Day 9 – Pokhara to Kathmandu
Trekking days are now over and thus you will now head to Kathmandu. You can either catch a flight from Pokhara or drive to Kathmandu. This will be your last night stay in Kathmandu. You can enjoy the last night by experiencing the Nepali cultural dinner, or taking beautiful pictures around the Kathmandu city

Day 10 – Departure
This will be your last day in Nepal. With gratitude and honor, we will drop you to the International Airport to catch your flight back to your country.
